Who is your guide? Ed Thorney is a certified wilderness guide, musician, and therapeutic counselor for families and youths.
The tri-state area is a treasure trove for magic spots, as Ed calls them. Mountains, lakes, rivers, rock-climbing sites, beautiful forests, and swamps are his classroom! Ed maintains certification as a Wilderness First Responder. As a musician he is part of the region's lively community of entertainers. He performs in a five piece Americana, country blues band called Northwest Passage.
What is offered:
Rock Climbing- is done at a local site that is perfect for families. Top-roping (what we do) is the industry standard for safe climbing.
Canoe Paddling Adventures- Flatwater canoe adventure where you are immersed in wildlife.
Hiking- Trail heads within minutes of Interlaken access gorgeous hikes!
Orienteering for Lunch and Stream Walk- On this adventure you are motivated to locate your lunch, which is hidden at the last station. Build a fire and enjoy lunch. Play in the brook and make emergency shelters.
Musical Entertainment around a campfire or indoors- Northwest Passage has a duo or 5 person band that can perform indoors or outdoors, daytime or evening.
Scavenger Hunts-Nature-based hunts are great fun and help you learn to identify every sign of wildlife the season and location have to offer.
Sweat Lodge Ceremony- An all-day activity as your family does the preparation of constructing the lodge, collecting the rocks, maintaining the fire, and finally entering their self-made sacred space.
Outdoor Cooking- Dutch ovens, roasting, & grilling. You will learn how to build a fire with only one match.
Rustic Furniture Making- A 2-session workshop making 3 legged stools made of White Ash.
